- Deadline for Sign up is November 1, 2009
All students K – 12 are encouraged to participate and any time period may be studied. Projects may include but are not limited to a display board, documentary, costume, biography, artwork, models, food, or artifacts.
The National History Day website can give you ideas for this year’s History Fair.
The optional theme this year is: Innovation in History: Impact and Change. The theme may help your child bring focus to his project and a launching point for a creative project.
All participants in the GWCHE history fair will be recognized and awarded for their participation and be eligible f
or door prizes.
The thought of doing a history fair project can be overwhelming, especially if you have never done one. We are aware that many people have not even considered doing a project. We are aware too that the deadline for this project is fast approaching. We would like to encourage all students to participate.
Projects do not need to be elaborate. They can be simple biographies about favorite characters in history or artwork created by the child to describe something in history. They can even be a display of foods that people would have eaten during that time or place in history. Students can create a scene by dressing up in a particular time period and displaying items used by the people of that time. Story boards and dioramas would also be good ideas. Research papers and display boards are obviously more time consuming and may not be possible for this year’s fair, but are great ways of communicating history.
Whatever students have to offer whether great or small will be welcomed. We would like to have as much participation as possible. Perhaps students have projects they have worked on in the past, but have not had an avenue to present their work. This is a great opportunity to get those projects out, dust them off, and work at making them presentable.
We ask that all projects be of a nature that can be displayed on or near a table. We will not be able to include projects like dramas, recitations, or video productions that require an attentive audience.
Attention: All High School and Jr High School Students
For students in 5th grade and up, this could be a jump start on the Regional History Fair at Baylor University in February. If we have students who want to participate in the Baylor History Fair, we have the opportunity to have a judged contest and guest speakers at our GWCHE History Fair so they can go on to Baylor History Fair. I would like to get a head count on any High School or Jr High students that want to participate in the Baylor History Fair. Please let me know as soon as you can if you are interested in this option.
The theme for the Baylor History Fair is Innovation in History: Impact and Change.
