What We Offer

The following activities and events, as well as others, are offered each year as members volunteer to lead.

Field Trips

Resource Fair

Held in August at the first GWCHE General Meeting, the Resource Fair features repsesentatives from local organizations offering classes, resources or other benefits to the homeschool community.

History Fair

Usually held at the October GWCHE General Meeting. Entrants receive a participation ribbon, andf those in grades 5-9 can move on to the regional histroy fair held at Baylor University.

Science Fair

Held in the spring, the Science Fair is a great way for your child to devlop scientific abilities. All participants earn a ribbon, and entrants may move on to the regional science fair.

Used Curriculum Sale

This is a great opportunity to clear out materials you no longer need, and to find great savings on the home school materials you’ve been looking for.

Graduation

Graduating as a group is an optional opportunity for GWCHE seniors.

Meals for Families

Coordinate meals for GWCHE members with new babies, family emergencies, etc.

Spring Track and Field Day

This event for GWCHE children grades K-12 offers both competitive and non-competive activities.

Book-It!

Pizza Hut’s reading incentive program.

Six Hour Reading Club – (Read to Succeed)

Six Hour Reading Club begins in January. For six weeks, children in grades K-6 read six extra hours to earn a ticket to Six Flags. Documentation required.

Geography Bee

Sponsored by the National Geographic Society, open to grades 4-8. GWCHE’s winner has the option to take a written test to qualify for state competition; the top one hundred students in Texas advance to nationals.

Spelling Bee

A non-elimination spelling bee held in the spring for students K-11. Small prizes to all participants and trophies to winners in each grade.

Back to School Splash Bash

Held in August, Spalsh Bash is a fun kick off to the school year! We reserve the entire Waco Water Park on a special evening just for us – fun for all ages!

Park Day

Let the kids play and the moms visit. Park location to be determined each park day.

Middler’s Activities

Activities and field trips for 5th-9th graders.

Valentine’s Party

A favorite annual tradition.

Mom’s Night Out

Get together on the first Tuesday of the month for a night of fellowship, fun and food.

Ladies’ Tea

Treat yourself to a fun time of food, fellowship, and encouragement.

Just For Dads

Possibilities include a father/son cookout, father/daughter events, or a breakfast or lunch for dads.

Standardized Testing

Group testing with the Stanford Achievement Test is offered in the first week or so of May.

GWCHE Library

We have a selection of books, curricula, videos, software, audio tapes, amnipulatives, games and posters. A copy machine is availabe.
