Read to Succeed Reminder—Deadline Extended to March 9th!

If you signed up for the Six Flags Read to Succeed Program and have been tracking your children’s reading hours, don’t forget to log in the hours online by  Wednesday, March 9th, 4 pm EST (3 pm local time), in order to receive your Six Flags tickets. Each child needs 360 minutes (6 hours) of recreational reading in order to meet the requirement. It looks as though each participating family will also receive a teacher ticket, too!

Read To Succeed—2011

Six Flags Read To Succeed Program: How to Sign Up!

The Six Flags Read to Succeed Program has COMPLETELY revamped its program this year. Please read the following info carefully as there are MAJOR CHANGES in the registration process. We want to make sure that everyone understands these changes so you can get your Six Flags tickets.

Please note the deadline to sign up is January 25.

What is Read to Succeed?

Read to Succeed is a program that encourages kids in grades K-6 to engage in recreational reading. Students who complete six hours of recreational, non-school-related reading receive a free admission ticket to a participating Six Flags theme park.

When is the deadline for registration?

All teachers (including homeschool teachers) must register by 4pm Eastern time on January 25, 2011 in order to participate in this year’s program.

How do I register?

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT STEP! REGISTER AS AN INDIVIDUAL HOMESCHOOL FAMILY! DO NOT REGISTER UNDER GWCHE’S NAME.

If you are a homeschool teacher, complete the following steps:

1) Visit  Read to Succeed and click on the “New User? Sign up!” link on the top right corner of the homepage.

2) You will first be asked to choose your school. Click on the “Choose School” link and then enter your school’s zip code in the space provided. After clicking “Submit,” a list of schools within your zip code will appear.

3) Your homeschool will not appear in the generated list. Under the “Can’t Find Your School?” header, check the “Yes” box to indicate that you are a homeschool.

4) You will now have to choose whether you are an individual homeschool or a homeschool group/coop.

THIS NEXT STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT!

PLEASE REGISTER AS AN INDIVIDUAL HOMESCHOOL FAMILY! DO NOT CHOOSE “I BELONG TO A HOMESCHOOL GROUP/CO-OP.”

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A NAME FOR YOUR HOMESCHOOL, YOU’LL NEED TO COME UP WITH ONE. PLEASE DO NOT USE GWCHE!

LIST YOUR HOME ADDRESS–NOT GWCHE’S ADDRESS.

YOUR TICKETS WILL BE MAILED DIRECTLY TO YOUR HOUSE USING THIS METHOD!

5) After choosing to register as an individual homeschool family, you will be asked to tell us about yourself and your homeschool. Fill in the necessary information, read and accept the homeschoolterms and conditions, and then scroll down to create a username, password and security question.

6) Click “Submit” once you have filled out the required information. A dialogue box will alert you that your registration was successful. You will also be asked if you would like to download the student reading log and parent letter.

How do I record my child’s reading log?

Beginning in late January 2011, you can begin logging your student hours online. As a registered user you will receive an email notification when that functionality is available.

YOU (THE HOMESCHOOL TEACHER) WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR RECORDING AND SUBMITTING YOUR STUDENT’S READING HOURS ONLINE BEFORE THE DEADLINE!

When is the deadline to submit student reading hours through the online system?

All student reading hours must be submitted through the online tracking system by 4pm Eastern time on March 4, 2011.
