Field Trips

This page provides general information about field trips.  If you want current information about specific field trips, please click the Field Trips link under Activities in the left sidebar.

Check out the many field trip ideas there are in our area.

Leading a field trip is a great way to volunteer and meet new friends. You can sign up alone or with a friend, either as a coordinator or assistant. Get in on established activities or develop a new idea and submit your proposal to the Activity Director for Board approval.

Field Trip Reminders

Click here to download a printable version of the Field Trip Reminders to put on your refrigerator to help remind you about the field trip.  There is a place for you to write details about the field trip.

  • Field trips are for GWCHE members only.
  • Nametags will be worn by all adults and children at each activity in order that we may become better acquainted as well as assist in identifying and guiding children.
  • You must contact the leader of the field trip and reserve a place for you and your children.  Many field trips have a limit and cannot accommodate everyone.  You will be placed on a waiting list if the field trip is full.
  • Do not show up at the field trip if you have not contacted the field trip leader.
  • On the day of the field trip, do not bring extra adults or children, if you have not reserved a place for them.  The leader and the host business prepare for a specific number of individuals.  It is sometimes impossible to accommodate even one more person.
  • Adults and children should dress appropriately for all occasions.  When in doubt of proper attire, the group leader should be contacted.
  • Because of the group privileges and GWCHE reputation, if you make a reservation but must later cancel, please do so as soon as possible, but no later than 2 hours prior to the event.  There may be someone on the waiting list that will be able to go in your place.  Also, it will let the leader know not to wait on your family. Monies paid in advance will not be refunded after the stated deadline.
  • Be on time.  It is disruptive to arrive after a presentation has started.
    • Members should plan to arrive at functions 10-15 minutes early to allow time to get name tags and listen to last minute rules. Promptness will ensure that the activity will begin in an orderly manner and allow everyone to receive maximum benefit from the activity.  Apologies for tardiness should be made directly to the activity leader.
  • You are responsible for your children.  Field trips are not drop off activities.
    • Unless specifically stated, a parent is required to attend all functions or designate another adult to supervise his/her children; in the later case, the parent must make sure his/her children are in the adult’s care before leaving.  The activity leader must be notified by the parent if another adult will be in charge of his/her children.
  • Do not visit with others during the presentation.
  • Thank your leaders and the businesses that host our groups.  Leaders are volunteers who spend their time to plan and lead these great learning experiences.
  • Please remember that each of us represents our home school group, Greater Waco Christian Home Educators, “A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches,” Proverbs 22:1
